According to Jean-Baptiste Alfonse Karr, a 19th-century French writer and journalist: “Plus ça change, plus la même chose” – that is, “the more things change, more they remain the same.”
I cannot even begin to describe how much the world and its inhabitants have changed since I used to be a child.
Once again, it’s “that season of the year”. It’s the holiday season, dare I say?
This is my 68th and I have been delivering “that season of the year” messages to Chipur for over 13 years.
It’s always a risky game. I am well aware that it can be an extremely difficult six-week period for people who are struggling with mood or anxiety disorders.
It can also be a period of reflection and happiness.
It is important to recognize the holiday season.
The more the world changes, the more it stays the same
It’s impossible to describe how much the world and its people have changed since my childhood. Since the internet boomed 30 years ago, I’m sure.
Collectively, we are well-informed and sophisticated. Unfortunately, we often have people who are full of themselves and mean.
You know what, though? Many things remain the same despite massive changes. The things that really matter are love, kindness and concern for others.
It’s hard to see the sameness if you don’t want to admit and remove the facade of going with the times.
If we take action, we will begin to understand who we are, and who we could be.
Let us be honest
Hey, take care of the next six-weeks in a way that is right for you. It’s okay to ignore the hubbub if that means it.
Let’s not be false to ourselves, those we love, or those who depend on us. We can’t give up if we are having a tough time emotionally or mentally. Hope is eternal.
Happy “that time” of the year “…
